The Clint Eastood

from: The Old-Fashioned
makes: 1 cocktail

Along with The Tree House, this has been my favorite old-fashioned from the book. I’m a sucker for almost anything that contains green Chartreuse. Here it adds complexity and a unique quality to this old fashioned which is nice with spicier rye versus bourbon.

2 ounces rye whiskey
1/8 ounce (approximately 3/4 teaspoon) angostura bitters
1/8 ounce (approximately 3/4 teaspoon) green Chartreuse
1/4 ounce demerara syrup*
orange twist

Combine all the ingredients except the orange twist in a mixing glass filled with ice and stir until chilled. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and serve up. Cut a piece of orange peel and lightly squeeze its oils atop the cocktail.

*Demerara Syrup (aka rich syrup)

makes: 1/2 cup

1 cup Demerara sugar
1/2 cup water

Heat the sugar and water in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar has dissolved. The moment the water begins to boil, remove from the heat, let cool, then refrigerate. Store tightly sealed in the refrigerator. It keeps for 1 week.
