New Year’s Eve Cocktails

Happy New Year! It’s time to crack the bubbly! Here are two cocktails that incorporate that effervescent New Year’s staple. The Citrus Drop is refreshing, but not too sweet. While also refreshing, the Flirtini leans towards the sweeter side, but tastes kind of sexy.

Citrus Drop
makes 1 drink
adapted from: Health Magazine

2 oz citrus flavored vodka
2 oz orange, or blood-orange juice (I made both, but preferred the blood orange if you can find it- the juice has a beautiful color.)

ice
Prosecco
Citrus peel & slice for garnish

(fresh squeezed orange & blood orange juice)
Combine the vodka and blood orange juice in an ice-filled shaker; shake well. Strain into a chilled martini glass; top with a splash of Prosecco. Garnish with a citrus peel spiral and slice; serve immediately.

Flirtini
makes 1 drink
adapted from: 101 Martinis

“ Here’s the cocktail made famous by the television show Sex and the City. There are several versions of this cocktail floating around, but this one is my favorite. It is the creation of master mixologist Dale DeGroff and taken from his The Craft of the Cocktail.”

2 chunks of fresh pineapple (about 2” each)
½ oz Cointreau or Triple Sec
½ oz good quality vodka
1 oz pineapple juice
3 oz Champagne
Cherries, for garnish

In the bottom of a mixing glass or shaker, muddle the pineapple pieces and the Cointreau. Add the vodka and juice and stir with ice. Strain into chilled martini glass and top with the champagne. Garnish with cherries & pineapple pieces.

Here’s to a happy & healthy New Year!
