Lemon Drop Martini

Happy Monday! If you my dear readers are anything like me, then Monday is not your favorite day of the week. You’ve just ended a weekend, you might be tired when you wake up from going to bed too late on Sunday, and you have the whole week ahead of you. (Which is not necessarily a bad thing.) Anyway, for some reason I don’t like them. I guess that’s why there are corny phrases like “a case of the Mondays” and “the Monday blues”.  Since I find the smell and taste of citrus very uplifting I thought I would post a lemon drop martini. So when you get home tonight, put your bag away, loosen your tie or put on your comfy sweats and get out the shaker. This martini will chase those Monday blues away.

Lemon Drop Martini

adapted from: 101 Martinis

2 oz lemon or citrus vodka
1 oz fresh-squeezed lemon juice
½ oz simple syrup
lemon wheel, for garnish
for martini rim: simple syrup and white sugar on separate plates

Wet the rim of the martini glass in simple syrup. Dip into the sugar several times to ensure coverage, and set aside.

Combine the vodka, lemon juice, and simple syrup in a cocktail shaker filled with ice and shake vigorously. Strain into the rimmed martini glass. Garnish with the lemon wheel.

* You can use the leftover white sugar to coat the lemon wheel if desired.
* Feel free to add a splash of Cointreau or triple sec to this martini.
