Banana-Fo-Fana Shake

This is a great shake for building your body’s fuel reserves while satisfying your craving for sweets. (Or ice cream in my case.) It tastes like banana ice cream with caramel undertones. I love the bit of spice that the nutmeg brings. I use unsweetened almond milk, as this shake has plenty of natural sugar. Did I mention that it’s freakin’ delicious?

1 ½- 2 cups almond or walnut milk (use a lesser amount for a frostier, thicker shake)

4 Medjool dates, pitted (if hard, soak for an hour before blending)
2 medium or 3 small frozen bananas, cut into chunks
½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
small handful of sliced almonds
optional: almond milk ice*
optional: superfood boost=1-2 tsp Maca powder

Put the milk, dates, bananas, and nutmeg (as well  as the maca powder if you are using it) in a blender and blend until smooth and thick, There may be tiny bits of dates in the finished shake depending on the power of your blender. They taste like little bits of caramel.

Pour into tall glasses or insulated mugs and sip slowly.

This shake is a good source of: natural sugars, potassium, sulfur, phosphorous, manganese, magnesium, iron, B & E vitamins, and fiber.

* For almond milk ice- simply fill an ice tray with almond milk and freeze. A great way to make a frothy smoothie without the dilution caused by ice made with water.
